Abi Clarke
In the past,
i.e. the early 2020s, comedians could have expected to spend many years
performing across the UK in stand-up comedy, before being invited to join a
television panel show and then selling out an arena tour. But, right now, it's
difficult. Comedy is one form of art that has been able to continue to be
performed front of an audience, but we won't be having arena tours anytime
soon. One Bristol comedian, however, has managed to attract an international
audience during lockdown by using social media. The pursuit of fame on the
internet isn't something Abi Clarke was hoping to achieve. Abi, 24 is from
Henbury, and began creating videos online "to create a network of
like-minded people who would like my stand-up comedy." "I had been
performing frequently in Devon to males older than 50 who weren't so keen on my
Love Island Sims and Twilight references, so it was the right time to get
online and find others who were young and would love my stand-up routine."
Abi, who lives in Henbury with her parents, continues to upload her video
content to Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok. She gets inspiration from many
sources, such as conversations with strangers, the chatroom, and writing down
her thoughts on her smartphone.
