Ronny Chieng
Ronny Xin
Yichieng, born on 21 November, 1985 in Malaysia is a comedian and actor. Chieng
is currently a correspondent in the senior position on The Daily Show on Comedy
Central and creator and star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student
which began airing on ABC (Australia) as well as Comedy Central Asia in 2017.
Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to an Malaysian Chinese family. He
was raised in Singapore as well as in the United States, living in Manchester, New
Hampshire from 1989 to 1994. Chieng was a part of Trevor Noah at a Melbourne
comedy festival in 2013. The following year Chieng was invited to be a
candidate for the correspondent position on The Daily Show, which Noah hosts.
Chieng was selected as one of the 10 most watched comics in the July issue of
Variety. In October 2016, Chieng joined The Daily Show to discuss a Jesse
Watters Fox News segment some believed was racist. Chieng broadcast an
expletive-laden critique of the segment on Fox News that was deemed
conservative by many. He also visited NewYork City's Chinatown in which Watters
had made fun of residents. The viral video received coverage in Slate as well
as the Washington Post. In his childhood, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout.
Though he's lived in Australia for over 10 years, he doesn't possess permanent
residency or citizenship in Australia. Chieng laughed in 2018 when he said the
cynophobe was his name, but later said that he was 100 % not scared of dogs.
